Western Digital Announces New Portable SSD External HD

SSD drives offer insanly high speed rates and much greater protection from shock and drops so it only makes sense to pick up some external high speed SSD drives for storing important files and for using as working drives. I have personally been using the Samsung T3 series to allow me to edit video projects from my laptop on a drive the size of a thick credit card. These drives easily handle the speeds needed for 4k video editing and keep my data secured. Well now Western Digital wants in and I am stoked.

The Western Digital My Passport SSD packs 515MB/s sequential read speeds which is actually slightly faster than my Samsung T3. It offers USB C and even includes an adapter in the box. These drives also bring 256-bit encryption and are rugged enough to survive a 6.5ft drop. I have been using Western Digital drives as my storage medium of choice for several years and highly recommend them. Pricing is right up there with the Samsung T3 and can be had for as little as $100 for the 256GB model, $200 for the 512GB, and $400 for 1TB. Personally, I use the 500GB model T3 and it makes a great working drive. At only .39" thick, these are insanely thing and fit perfectly along side my laptop.
