Canon EOS-M Announced
The EOS-M is a new model from Canon. Unlike the Canon G12, the M looks largely consumer focused lacking any complex external dials and instead opting for a touch screen for most menu options. Even so, the M packs many of the manual controls professional's demand, just a little deeper in the menus. With a Digic V processor and APS-C sensor, the M is almost like putting a T4i into the body of a S100. 2 new lenses have also been announced though the M will be capable of being used with all existing Canon lenses. At $799 with a 22mm f/2 lens, the Canon is on the expensive side compared to the competition that has already seen price reductions. Even so, the level of features on the Canon, place it close to the top of this market segment. I expect excellent photo quality given the t4i guts, though the speed and functionality remain to be seen. Look for an October release date.
