Best gear at WPPI 2018

WPPI (aka The Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) is an amazing photography conference and expo in Las Vegas offering tons of courses, photowalks, and some amazing hands on time with all the best gear around! As a bonus, many brands use this time to announce exciting new products and WPPI 2018 was no exception. Here are just a few of my favorite announcements and new gear!

Sony A7III Camera
This was by far the biggest and most amazing announcement of WPPI by a large margin. Sony’s “Entry Level Full Frame Camera” competes more with top level cameras from Canon and Nikon bringing some of the most unbelievable tech ever packed into a camera system under $2000. You can check out our full review of the Sony A7III and they are currently on sale now!

Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 HSM ART Lens
Sigma announced a brand new 14-24mm F2.8 HSM ART lens bringing amazin quality, weather sealing, and virtually zero distortion in this wide angle lens. Designed for high megapixel cameras over 50MP, this lens should absolutely be on the top of your list.

Sigma Sony E Mount Lenses
Sigma also announced 8 new lenses would be available with Sony E mount natively without an adapter! For those of you shooting with any of Sony’s FE cameras like the A7RIII or new A7III, these are certainly worth a look.

Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera
Although extremely similar to the Canon T7i, the M50 loses the mirror and gains a few features in the process. The 24MP sensor, flip touch screen, dual pixel AF, 4k video, and extensive connection options make this a great mirrorless option for Canon enthusiasts. Unfortunately Canon’s lens lineup for its mirrorless cameras is still extremely limited and almost completely void of any quality options. Also that 4k video recording comes with an additional crop factor and drops autofocus so you might want to plan on shooting 1080p video only. But if you love the Canon T7i and are looking for a mirrorless option, the M50 might be worth a look.

Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI Flash
Coming straight out of left field with a product no one expected, Canon pulled the curtain on a new Intelligent Bounce flash! The flash equiped with a motorized head will automatically bounce light in several directions to determine the best method of lighting your subject. It’s amazing tech for sure although you need to wait for the shipping date of May 1st to see if this is more gimmick or a product you should go out and buy.

Fuji X-H1 Camera
The Fuji X-H is basically a slightly upgraded Fuji X-T2 that takes some cues from Fuji’s medium format GFX 50S and adds some video advancements to a new camera lineup. Also upgraded is the price tag which starts at $1,899 for the body alone. You can check out all the details in our initial hands on with the Fuji X-H1
